Signs You Should Schedule an Appointment with a Plainview, NY Power Washing Professional

Your home is your castle, and you take great pride in its appearance; not only the interior, but the exterior, as well. Curb appeal is so important, as it not only affects the overall look and feel of your Nassau County house, but it also has a direct impact on the value of your property. A professional power washing company can help to restore and maintain the curb appeal of your house, as they can remove caked-on dirt, debris, and grime from outdoor surfaces. But how do you know when you should schedule an appointment with a Plainview, NY power washing company? If you notice any of the following signs, it’s time to consider looking for power washing companies near you.

Dirty Siding

Are green, brown, or gray streaks or patches dripping down or covering your siding? If so, then you should definitely start searching for power washing companies near you. If the discoloration is green or grayish in color, it could be mold or mildew; if it’s brownish, it’s probably dirt and mud. Either way, you’ll definitely want to have it cleaned off.

Mold and mildew are more pressing issues, as these living organisms can do more than just make your Nassau County home look dingy; they can actually do serious damage. Because they’re living organisms, mold and mildew will eat through the surface of the siding, as well as the underlying building materials. If left unchecked, the structural integrity of your house could become compromised. Dirt and mud aren’t as serious; however, they can certainly detract from your curb appeal.

A Discolored Roof

Take a look at your roof. Do you see any green spots growing on the shingles? If so, you’ll want to call a Plainview, NY power washing professional as soon as possible, as those spots you’re seeing are probably moss, mold, and/or mildew.

The roof is one of the most important parts of your Nassau County home, as it protects the interior from the elements. Because it’s constantly exposed to such harsh conditions, including moisture, extreme temperatures, dirt and debris, and the sun’s UV rays, a roof is particularly prone to moss, mold, and mildew growth. Just like when these organisms grow on siding, as they feed on the roofing materials, they can leave serious damage in their wake; shingles curl and become loose, and they can even create holes. Of course, in addition to the extensive damage and costly repairs that mold, moss, and mildew growth can do to a roof, they negatively impact the look of your home, too.

To avoid the risk of serious damage and costly repairs, and to preserve the curb appeal of your Nassau County home, as soon as you see any discoloration on your roof, start looking for power washing companies near you.

Stained and Dirt-Covered Driveway and Walkway

Driveways and walkways are used on a constant basis. Vehicles drive over and are parked on the driveway, and of course, people walk across the walkways; they’re constantly exposed to the elements, too. Because they see so much traffic and since they’re under such extreme conditions, driveways and walkways experience a lot of wear and tear and can become dirty, dingy, and stained.

If your driveways and walkways are covered with built-up dirt, caked-on debris, and oil stains will negatively impact the visual appeal of your Nassau County house. Even more concerning, they can become slick underfoot, and can potentially turn these high-traffic areas into a serious hazard. To restore the look and safety of these outdoor structures, get in touch with a Plainview, NY power washing professional as soon as you notice your driveway and/or walkways are covered with dirt and stains.

Higher Energy Bills

The signs that your home could use a good power washing aren’t always visible. There are other signs that you should be on the lookout for, too; your utility bills, for example. If your energy bills seem to be a lot higher than they normally are, believe it or not, dirt and debris buildup on the exterior surfaces of your Nassau County home could be to blame. How? Well, if your roof and siding are coated with a thick film of mildew and/or caked-on dirt and debris, maintaining a consistent temperature indoors can be tough. To keep you and your family comfortable, your HVAC system will have to work overtime, and the harder the system works, the more energy it will use – and of course, the more energy it uses, the higher your utility bills will be.

If utility expenses seem to be much higher than usual and you aren’t using your heating or air conditioning any more than usual, having a Plainview, NY power washing company clean the roof and siding might help to reduce the expense – and improve the comfort of your Nassau County home.

Some information about Plainview, NY

Plainview is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located near the North Shore of Long Island in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP as of 2010 was 26,217. The Plainview post office has the ZIP code 11803.

Plainview’s origins date to 1648, when Robert Williams, a settler from Wales, bought land in the area. The land was considered desirable for farming because of a small pond named the Moscopas by local Native Americans, meaning ‘hole of dirt and water’. The remainder of the land in the area was purchased by Thomas Powell in 1695 as part of the Bethpage Purchase. The name ‘Mannatto Hill’ had already appeared on the 1695 deed of the Bethpage Purchase, and the settlement came to be called ‘Manetto Hill’. Manitou was the Native American word either for ‘god’ or for ‘spirit’.

The 1837 arrival of the Long Island Rail Road to nearby Hicksville brought a boom to local farming. In 1885, residents of Manetto Hill petitioned the United States Postal Service for a local post office, but were turned down because, according to several accounts, a similar name was already in use upstate. The hamlet was then named ‘Plainview’, for the view of the Hempstead Plains from the top of the Manetto Hills.

Plainview remained a farming community, famous for growing cucumbers for the huge Heinz pickle factories located in nearby Farmingdale and Hicksville. In the early 1900s blight destroyed the cucumber crop and many farmers switched to potatoes. After World War II, a potato blight combined with the desire of many returning GIs to leave New York City for the more rural Long Island, convinced many farmers to sell their property, leading to massive development in the area, giving rise to so-called suburban sprawl. Between 1950 and 1960, the hamlet grew from a population of 1,155 to more than 35,000. Most of the available land was developed during this period or otherwise designated as parkland. While overall development declined it did continue sporadically as smaller remaining parcels of land were also developed. In recent years, some of the few large remaining parcels have given way to gated communities, which are in contrast to most housing in the area. Some of these developments include ‘The Hamlet on Olde Oyster Bay’ and ‘The Seasons at Plainview’, a residential community focused on over age 55 residents and first time home buyers.
