Ask for Recommendations

House Washing Near Me in Shelter Island, NY

Start your quest for finding a reputable Shelter Island, NY power washing company by asking the people you know for recommendations. Find out if any of your family members, friends, neighbors, or even co-workers have hired a professional power washer before. If so, ask what companies they used, if they were satisfied with the results the company provided, and whether or not they would recommend you use the company to clean your Suffolk County house. Word-of-mouth recommendations are one of the best ways to find reliable, efficient, and affordable companies that offer house washing near you. Why? Because you can usually depend on the people you know to provide their honest input.

Search Online

Whether you don’t know anyone who can recommend a power washing professional or you got a few recommendations but you want to add a few more options to the list, the internet is a great place to find Shelter Island, NY power washing services. Search for terms like “house washing near me” or “power washing companies in my area” into your browser and you’ll be sure to find several options to choose from.

Visit the websites of a few different companies that come up in your search results. Check out what type of services they offer. See if you can find out about their credentials (how long they’ve been in business, if they’re licensed, etc.). See if there are any testimonials from past clients on their site. Reputable Suffolk County power washing professionals know how important a website is – both for their clients and to the success of their business – and they’ll make sure that it’s informative, well-designed, and easy to use.

Check Review Sites

Once you have the names of a few companies that you’re interested in, use review websites to see if you can find out more information about them. Sites like Home Advisor, Angie’s List, and Google My Business are a great way to learn about all kinds of companies and services, including professionals that offer house washing near you. These sites feature company profiles of businesses that service the local Suffolk County area and compile reviews from clients who have used those companies. Take the time to read through what people have to say about the Shelter Island, NY power washing companies that you’re considering.

Contact Each Company

Once you’ve compiled a list of professionals that offer house washing near you, get in touch with each one. In order to ensure that you’re making the best choice, it’s so important to speak with prospective companies before you decide which one to hire. Be sure to ask each professional key questions that relate to their credentials and the services they provide, such as:

Of course, you can include any other pertinent questions that you feel would help you make your decision. After you’ve spoken to each Shelter Island, NY power washing company, review the answers they’ve provided. Additionally, consider the interaction you had with each one. Did they seem knowledgeable and friendly? Were they able to answer all of your questions? If you had to leave a message, did they get back to you in a timely manner? If any of the companies make a bad impression – they seem rude, they can’t answer all of your questions, or they just seem indifferent – consider those red flags and cross them off your list. The impression that a company that offers house washing near you says a lot about the type of results they will deliver.

Some information about Shelter Island, NY

Shelter Island is a town and island at the eastern end of Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. It is part of Suffolk County, although it is separated from the rest of the county by water. The population was 2,392 at the 2010 census.

The island was long inhabited by indigenous peoples, related to those who lived north of Long Island Sound. At the time of European encounter, it was occupied by the Manhanset tribe, an Algonquian-speaking people related to the Pequot and other Algonquians of New England. The original name of the island, used by the Manhanset Indians, is Manhansack-aha-quash-awamock, which literally translates to ‘Island sheltered by islands.’

Shelter Island was included in the original Plymouth Company land grant made by James I of England in 1620. On April 22, 1636, Charles I of England, told that the colony had not made any settlements yet on Long Island, gave the island to William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling. The grant gave Alexander all of Long Island and adjacent islands. Alexander gave James Farret power to act as his agent and attorney in colonizing Long Island. In reward Farret was allowed to choose 12,000 acres (49 km2) for his personal use. Farret chose Shelter Island and Robin’s Island for his use. Farret in turn sold the islands to Stephen Goodyear, one of the founders of the New Haven Colony.

In 1651 Goodyear sold the island to a group of Barbados sugar merchants for 1,600 pounds of sugar. Nathaniel Sylvester (1610–1680), one of the merchants, was the island’s first white settler. He was among a number of English merchants who had lived and worked in Rotterdam (where he was born) before going to Barbados. His connections there and with the Netherlands helped him establish a far-flung trading enterprise. On March 23, 1652, he made the purchase official by agreement with Youghco (called Poggatticut), the sachem of the Manhanset tribe. The other owners, Sylvester’s brother Constant, and Thomas Middleton, never came to Long Island. In 1673 Nathaniel Sylvester claimed ownership of Shelter Island, Fishers Island, and other parts of Long Island. By that time the Manhansett had declined in number and power.
