Top Reasons to Hire a Professional Shelter Island, NY Company That Offers Roof Cleaning Services
Is your roof covered with green algae? Is it blanketed with moss? Are the shingles spattered with stains? Whatever the case may be, if your Suffolk County roof is looking lackluster and worse for the wear, you’ll definitely want to have it cleaned. A dirty roof isn’t just unsightly; caked-on dirt, debris, moss, mildew, and other organic materials can cause serious damage that could necessitate costly repairs.
To improve the curb appeal of your Suffolk County home and maintain the integrity of the roof, cleaning the structure is an absolute must. If you’re the DIY-type and you enjoy doing projects around the house, you might be thinking about doing the job yourself. While that’s certainly commendable, you might want to consider investing in professional roof cleaning services, instead. Before you head out to the home improvement store to stock up on supplies and pull out your ladder, here’s a look at some of the top reasons you should hire a Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning company.
Training and Experience
While it might seem like cleaning a roof is a pretty simple and straightforward task, it’s actually a lot more complicated than it appears. While roofs are durable, as they’re designed to withstand the elements, when it comes to cleaning them, special care must be exercised. If the wrong techniques are used – if the detergents are too harsh or if the water pressure is too powerful, for example – there’s a good chance that a roof could suffer serious damages; the shingles can be torn off or the tiles could be cracked, for instance.
While there are a lot of DIY tutorials available that can teach you how to clean a roof, the information they provide won’t compare to the knowledge and experience of a company that offers roof cleaning services. A reputable Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning professional will have completed the training that’s needed to properly clean a roof. They’ll know what kind of tools and equipment, and what type of techniques and strategies to use to deliver safe and efficient results.
Better Equipment and Supplies
Sure, you can find a power washer and cleaning detergents at your local home improvement store, but they’ll be no match for the equipment and supplies that a Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning company will have access to. A reliable professional that offers roof cleaning services will have the most advanced equipment, including commercial-grade power and/or soft washers that are outfitted with the most state-of-the-art technologies. They’ll also have access to the safest and most effective detergents that will be able to remove all kinds of dirt and debris, but that won’t damage your Suffolk County roofing materials. A professional will also keep their equipment in excellent condition, which is essential because in order for roof cleaning services to be effective, the tools and equipment that are used have to be well-maintained.
Roof cleaning can be a hazardous task. Not only does it involve climbing up ladders and working high up off the ground, but it also requires handling heavy tools with long hoses. Because water and detergents are involved, the surface you’re working on can become slick. All it takes is one misstep and you could end up suffering serious injuries. No matter how many safety precautions you take, there’s always a chance that something could go wrong when you’re cleaning a roof on your own. To avoid the risk of injury, hiring a company that offers roof cleaning services is a much safer bet. A reputable and experienced Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning professional will take all of the necessary precautions, and will know exactly how to approach the job as safely as possible.
Believe it or not, hiring a Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning company can be a lot more affordable than doing the job yourself. A lot of homeowners assume that doing the job themselves will save them money, but in reality, it can end up costing more. Purchasing or renting the equipment, accessories, and detergents that are needed can be pretty pricey. Add in the fact that if you make a mistake and damage your Suffolk County property or suffer an injury, you could be looking at costly repairs and/or medical care.
A reliable company that offers roof cleaning services will have access to all of the tools and equipment that will be needed to get the job done. Plus, in the event that something goes wrong – they damage your roof or they slip and fall – a reputable Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning company will be fully insured, and they will cover the cost of any repairs or medical care that might be needed.
Peace of Mind
Peace of mind is another excellent reason to invest in roof cleaning services. The knowledge and experience, better results, improved safety, and cost savings that you’ll be able to take advantage of when you hire a Shelter Island, NY roof cleaning professional will definitely offer you peace of mind. In today’s day and age when everything is so hectic and uncertain, who couldn’t use a little more peace of mind?

Shelter Island is a town and island at the eastern end of Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. It is part of Suffolk County, although it is separated from the rest of the county by water. The population was 2,392 at the 2010 census.
The island was long inhabited by indigenous peoples, related to those who lived north of Long Island Sound. At the time of European encounter, it was occupied by the Manhanset tribe, an Algonquian-speaking people related to the Pequot and other Algonquians of New England. The original name of the island, used by the Manhanset Indians, is Manhansack-aha-quash-awamock, which literally translates to ‘Island sheltered by islands.’
Shelter Island was included in the original Plymouth Company land grant made by James I of England in 1620. On April 22, 1636, Charles I of England, told that the colony had not made any settlements yet on Long Island, gave the island to William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling. The grant gave Alexander all of Long Island and adjacent islands. Alexander gave James Farret power to act as his agent and attorney in colonizing Long Island. In reward Farret was allowed to choose 12,000 acres (49 km2) for his personal use. Farret chose Shelter Island and Robin’s Island for his use. Farret in turn sold the islands to Stephen Goodyear, one of the founders of the New Haven Colony.
In 1651 Goodyear sold the island to a group of Barbados sugar merchants for 1,600 pounds of sugar. Nathaniel Sylvester (1610–1680), one of the merchants, was the island’s first white settler. He was among a number of English merchants who had lived and worked in Rotterdam (where he was born) before going to Barbados. His connections there and with the Netherlands helped him establish a far-flung trading enterprise. On March 23, 1652, he made the purchase official by agreement with Youghco (called Poggatticut), the sachem of the Manhanset tribe. The other owners, Sylvester’s brother Constant, and Thomas Middleton, never came to Long Island. In 1673 Nathaniel Sylvester claimed ownership of Shelter Island, Fishers Island, and other parts of Long Island. By that time the Manhansett had declined in number and power.
